Default Long time no see

Well i've been off this site for a while, i felt bad spending so much time on something and never making any progress while i see cars getting built and finished on here. In my absence I've purchased a 1999 Hugger Orange SS for a daily driver and now have a heads/cam/intake setup waiting to go on to make it a little more fun to drive. Well my engineering major has afforded me the opportunity to get a Co-op and work for Toyota in San Antonio for quite some time (works out to about a year of work).

Now onto the project. Since i'll be getting a little more cashflow than usual i think it's about time to dust off the cobwebs of my 69 Camaro LT1/T56 swap and start on it some more. I'll call this series of mods phase two. With the cash i plan on making my car is finally going into a body shop. Originally when i purchased my car i wanted a yellow w/ black stripped car. Well now with the Hugger Orange SS daily driver i'm kinda wanting to take it back to it's original color of Hugger Orange. I do however want to do something a little different so i'm planning on installing a year one "SS" scoop hood and painting on a Black Manta stripe to match the one on my new car. I'm planning on pulling the engine transmission so they can smooth the firewall but i'm having the engine bay painted black. Minitubs will also be installed to allow the future use of a wide tire (looking at running a 315 minimum and hoping to get a tire in in the area of a 335-345 range).

After the body work is complete i'll be starting in on the suspension. I plan on doing more research around here to see what direction i should go. I've really been reading up and looking at the HTH rear suspension setup but i also am considering designing and building my own 3 or 4 link setup (i'll try to work it in as an engineering design project in one of my classes ). The goal with this car is just to produce a nice driver that can enjoy a nice cruise (power tour maybe) as well as the occasional track day or a trip or two to the 1320. Front suspension options seem to be a little easier to come by. What would be a good suspension setup. I'm looking at probably a new front clip but wouldn't be completely opposed to just modifying the stock front clip. I want alot nice mean stance and big brakes for sure. Still researching wheels to see what i like the most. I will forever love the Fikse FM5 but i'm looking at trying something a little different since that wheel is rather popular already.

As for interior i'm still unsure as to how i want to set it up, right now it has the autometer 4 guage pod in the factory console and i have the 5 in tach and speedo that still have yet to be installed in the dash. I'm not really wanting to do a 4th gen dash swap i'm planning on leaving that all 69 style and maybe a retro covered nice supportive seat and it will almost definitely have atleast a 6 point cage.

The powertrain plans i have now are a little more wide open and this is the part i'm positive will be completed a year or two down the road and definitely after i graduate. My plans are to get a LS2 block or possibly a new aftermarket LS-series block and then fill the insides with a lower compression forged assembly and AFR 225's up top to help the Kenne Bell 2.6L-2.8L blower. Something about a big twin screw blower sitting up top that screams old school muscle but with the FI and all aluminum setup of the new engine will have a nice modern appeal. Transmission will definitely be a T56.

Sorry for writing such a long re-intro to the lateral-g.net world but i've been gone a long time and have alot of catching up to do.

Thanks and good to be back,
William

**Cliff Notes**
Left and came back now that i'm about to start on my car again. Have a job that will let me do a few more things. Plan on starting with the body, painted hugger orange, then move onto suspension. Looking at HTH setup but wouldn't be opposed to a 3 or 4 link setup and still researching front suspension. Interior is undecided and the powertrain i'm looking at is a modern LS based motor with a KB 2.6 or 2.8 and a T56.

Will,

Long time no see. It is Russell (white97ex) from the AF board. Glad to hear things are going good. A good place to keep an eye out for parts are the following (if you don't already know about them.) LS2.com in the texas section. DFWLS1.com and dfwstangs.net. Can't wait to see the progress on this!

P.S. My 1/12th scale camaro is down in the artwork forum

Cool man, yea i check LS2.com and LS1tech.com pretty regularly for parts. I got my heads/cam/intake off LS1tech.com as well as quite a few other parts. I'm not sure where all i'm getting parts for my car but for right now most money is going into the body.

Yea this pushes graduation back a little more even still. I was SUPPOSED to graduate in spring 06. Transferring schools knocked it back a year about. So i should have graduated next spring. However this Co-op is a 3 semester deal. I think i'll be graduating May 08.

well the Co-Op is a good thing. builds a good relationship and possibly gets your foot in the door for employment post graduation. I was supposed to have graduated, had I stayed on schedule in the spring of 05...but things happen. Can't wait to see more of the car!!
