Default 2012 One Lap of America

Since it's already that time of the year again I thought I would pass some information along to anyone who might be considering entering this year's Tire Rack One Lap of America

It's going to be a really cool route this year:

May 5th
Tire Rack Headquarters – Wet Skid Pad – South Bend, IN
Plymouth Speedway Oval – Time Trial (3/8 paved oval) – Plymouth, IN
Autobahn Country Club – Time Trial (Road Course - South Track) – Joliet, IL

May 6th
Mid- America Motorplex – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Pacific Junction, IA
Mid-America Motorplex – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Pacific Junction, IA

May 7th
Hallet Motor Racing Circuit – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Jennings, OK
Hallet Motor Racing Circuit – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Jennings, OK

May 8th
High Plains Raceway – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Deer Trail, CO
High Plains Raceway – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Deer Trail, CO

May 9th
Motorsports Park Hastings – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Hastings, NE
Motorsports Park Hastings – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Hastings, NE
Motorsports Park Hastings – Autocross – Hastings, NE

May 10th
Brainerd International Raceway – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Brainerd, MN
Brainerd International Raceway – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Brainerd, MN
Brainerd International Raceway – Low ET Drag Race – Brainerd, MN
Brainerd International Raceway – Bracket Race – Brainerd, MN

May 11th
Road America – AM Time Trial (Road Course) – Elkhart Lake, WI
Road America – PM Time Trial (Road Course) – Elkhart Lake, WI

May 12th
Tire Rack Headquarters – Dry Skid Pad – South Bend, IN

which looks like this:

Should be just a touch under 3,500 miles when it's done and there are definately some challenges - both tracks (I've never taken the '67 on an oval) and locations (Denver in May... fingers crossed).

Mary and I will be there again this year, running The OneLapCamaro. We're working through some issues now but we should be ready to go come the end of April. Currie has finished the assembly of the Baer Floater assembly and we should be running with that at RTTC for a shake down. We've got to get a new TOB installed (after killing in at OUSCI) and I think we'll change out the clutch again... just in case... and I think that a new tensioner is in the cards... again... just in case. We're going to try the new Michelin Super Sport tires this year - non-runflat design and in my testing at OUSCI they seemed to be very predictable. They are supposed to have 325's ready shortly but if not we'll stick with the 305's we've got now.

All that being said... who's going to join us?

I know that Jimi Day will be back in the Z06 and I'm going to assume that Mr. Angry will return in who knows what. Anyone else?

I was lucky enough to do the one lap in 04 in a Subaru Forester XT and it was a great week and event!

I will return again.

Good luck to you.

Thanks everybody - we really appreciate the support. This is a daunting deal and as we found out last year the PT community is really something else - we would not have finished without the help!

We'll be there - sporting our "new look" and, hopefully, shaking down some new parts and skills!

That would be awesome if you could! Redbull is great but I've found the combination of NOS Energy Drink, Ruffles All Dressed, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups works really well. We tried the 5 hour stuff last year and it (a) had no effect and (b) tasted like we were drinking bug juice. I owe you a phone call when I get back from Belize next week.

Thanks again everyone! It's hard to believe (or we would prefer not to believe?) that we have to be ready to go in less than 90 days - youch! At least this year there is no editor's challenge to worry about...
