Default DUI & My Trailer !

Well.... I was awakened at 2:30am by a loud BANG. Thinking the local hoodlums just whacked my mailbox, I went back to sleep, only to be awakened again this time by the phone. My neighbor was ranting that someone just "hit" my trailer. As i went outside I was greeted by a circus of lights and a crowd gathered around what was my trailer.
A 20 year old girl DRUNK off her rocker used my trailer as a ramp similar to Bo and Luke Duke. She launched her Toyota Camry off my trailer at 40mph (in a 15mph zone) and then tried to flee by foot after her car "died". My neighbor chased her down and she was arrested at the hospital after treatment for stitches and charged with 10 sitations including DUI and leaving the scene. I couldnt imagine the impact or sound (I was dead asleep)
The trailer is totaled (hard to tell by the pics) but the frame is badly tweaked, two flat tires, two bent axles, fender torn off, and my trucks frame and bumper were twisted from the impact.
her car is totaled as well. unbelievable damage. her alum. wheel broke in four pieces and the tire came off the rim completely. Her axle came out from the trans, the front suspension was torn out, steering arms broke off, oil pan cracked, front bumper torn off, fender gone, hood damaged, pass door damaged, front bumper destroyed into foam pieces no bigger than a golf ball.
I only bring my work home if I am using it the next day. This trailer was to be used to pick up a car 6 hours after the accident. Luckly I have a 28ft enclosed trailer that I will use full time and that was not there.

Sorry to hear about the wreck. While reading the post, I was half expecting you to say that they gave you a parking ticket or something on top of everything. Glad no one was hurt.

Steve.... I learned something too.
Had the trailer been "free" of a vehicle meaning not attched by hitch etc it WOULD be illegally parked and I would have been issued a ticket.
However, it is law and the accident report even states that when a trailer IS attached it is LEGALLY parked.
Thank god for that !

I hope she was insured. Better yet I hope she is covered by her parents policy.

Sounds like you owe your neighbor a case of cold ones.

Could have been worse, could have had a car on it.

Check out hecht trailers in Toms River when you get the ins check.

Steve, I just noticed your in Farmingdale. I'm in Old Bridge.... Where is your shop located?
