Default My'74 Challenger Rallye 360 4spd

...this is my personal car I bought as a driver. Took my two kids (ages 4 and 7) on a few legs of the Power Tour this year, logged 1,200 miles and now it's time to tear into it. It is a full numbers matching Rallye 360 4spd car, bored .040 over with stock heads (read crappy smog heads), an aftermarket dual-plane intake and Holley Street Avenger Carb, and headers (which I have bashed in twice aready).

The car isn't OE restored, not painted the correct shade of yellow, and overall not "show quality" so I am going to have some fun with it using a retro-tech approach to restomodding her. From a handling perspective, I am planning a using a Firm Feel quick ratio steering box that looks basically stock, their tubular A arms (which dial in enough camber to give the ca a better on-center feel and bring the wheel back to center automatically when you let go) and some firmer shocks. Out back I am swapping out the shocks, keeping the leafs and have already put in Cal-Tracks.

The power is going to all be 'hidden' or retro improvements, a modern Magnum 5.7L heads with vintage '70 TA exhaust manifolds (machined within an inch of their life), and a vintage hi-performance Edelbrock dual-plane intake (I think it's an E340 intake), and stock 360 valve covers. I am swapping out the stock air cleaner for a '71 small block fresh air set-up and fitting the hood with a fresh -air flapper (like seen on many a "B" body. The Rallye hood will have the black out treatment but without the "R/T" call out.

The overall effect is stock, but not concours appearing, with modern performance feel. More plans later, gotta go!

Here a few more "before" pics:

Comments, suggestions, welcome..

Do the suspension mods first so you can keep driving it. Then the motor mods so you can keep driving it. Then drive it alot because you can still drive it.

I was thinking, have the motor guy pull the drivetrain at his shop so I don't have to store it this winter.

Then, pull the interior out at his place so I don't have to do it at me place.

Send the dash and interior panels out to Just Dashes (unless you all have a better idea).

Then, flatbed it over to the paint guy to repaint it the RIGHT yellow (BLAZE YELLOW) so the trunk is right, so there is no overspray on the brake booster, so the engine bay looks fresh when we put the freshly detailed motor in it. AND so I don't have to store it this winter.

Have the stainless polished, new re-dated glass ordered up...

Send the freshly repainted back to engine guy, install afore mentioned suspension parts, as well as piles of new engine bay parts to install after they drop freshly rebuilt motor in...

Flat bed the car home- install new dash, fresh gauge cluster, dynamat, and hidden mp3/sattelite stereo system, and interior back into car.

Spring Arrives...

Drive the living piss out of it!
