i have not done this one yet ,but i have read a few articals on this and the tunnel needs to be enlarged. maybe a 700r4 might work better.

The 4L60E is virtually identical to the 700r4. Only differences of notable mention is the case. Honestly if you are going to run a healthy motor you need to be looking into at least a 4L65E at a minimum.
I have installed a 4L60E and LS1 into a 72 Camaro. I have also the Fatman frame stub, so it may be a little different from yours.
I had to cut a small rectangle on each side of the floor, appr. 5x3in right in front of where the floor has a stamping across, in order to have room for the new cross member. There was no problem with the tunnel, enough space there in my application.
I hope this information is useful for you.
I have a 4L80E in my 64 A body and it fit without cutting the tunnel. I also have about 1.5" engine setback which would make it even worse, and the 4L80E I have is much larger than a 4L60E. I would think it would clear without cutting, unless the 72 has a smaller tunnel than a 64.
This is what I've got...I dont see anyway to get it to fit without cutting tunnel which I would prefer not to do other than repositioning the motor but I cant go much lower due to steeringrack interference.
