who has awd?

In my dilusional quest to build something unique and crazy fast i've been contemplating awd. Has anyone done it? Thinking turbo LSx in a gen I camaro with awd.

well i seriously thought about it for my "shop" truck shop truck

but i decided i didnt want the engineering headache so im saving the awd parts for the next project.

i think awd in an f-body is gonna be super hard to figure out, simply because after you engineer and fab up a subframe for the front diff, where is the motor gonna go? either up or back, niether of which sound ideal. i think the idea rocks, if you can figure out how to package it...it would be sweet

there is a guy in the hybrid section of LS1tech.com that is putting an LS1 into a Subaru WRX.. I don't remember if he is keeping the AWD..

Bad thing about AWD is the huge amount of drivetrain loss you have.. something like 25%..

Rodz- That is one mean "shop truck" and yeah I know it will be a MAJOR undertaking to complete a project like this. I've been searching posts and pictures for a while now and ideas are coming. More than likely would set the motor back and cut the firewall a bit. Looks like the syclone front diff would be an acceptable setup tho likely to require some custom 1/2 shafts and use C5 rear drive hubs I love engineering crazy stuff and something like this would be quite an addition to my resume (as an engineer) No doubt it would be years in the making but hey it keeps me out of trouble.

Steve- Yeah awd does have a good bit of parasitic loss in the driveline but it's all a give and take. Being able to rip off 1.5 60ft's on street tires (not DR's) on an unpreped surface is well worth it. Ever tryed getting a 600rwhp car to hook up below 50mph on radials, it's no fun.

And the ultimate reason to try it, as far as I know nobody has done an awd Gen I maro so might as well be the first.

well my next...or next+3 project.... is a 33 chevy 3 window coupe(steel), i have typhoon front diff, trans/t-case. im not really sure about any details yet, other than its also gonna be fenderless.... and probably be a lil more driver friendly.

i figured i would use 930 c/v's, with custom shafts, custom knuckles with ?? for hubs...also tryin to figure out if inboard brakes will work on the front as well as the back........ as they become "sprung" weight, and i really dig the big wheels with nothin behind em look.

anyway...we wanna see lots of pics, with enough time an money...damn near anything is possible.... so get that awd f-body project goin

Check over at www.syty.net there is a guy who put a LS1 in a Typhoon. He built his own website (I can get link if you need it) on how he did the whole swap. I would think using SYTy awd or Bravada parts is the way to go.
