Last minute decision on my part. I need to scratch the track itch....
I'll be headed out saturday if anyone wants to come out. Speedventures puts on a great event, all you need is your car, a quick tech inspection and $170 for the day. Helmet rentals are available for $20...
I will be around this weekend if any of you guys want to do a shop tour and need guidance on the place to eat Saturday night. My shop is 20 minutes from the track.

Or if you need to wrench on something...

I didn't realize you guys were so close. If you're going to be around I'll surely cruise by. I'm in need of a shop I can trust to take my car to the next level when I finally make that jump.

Just Pm when you wanna come by, I'm gonna go break in the New Jeep Saturday morning at Hungry Valley, But I will be around all weekend. It sounds like you will be lapping both Saturday and Sunday so maybe friday night of saturday night. It's only supposed to be 98 degress this weekend so it won't be THAT hott.....
Dane--next time can you give a bit more notice? I'd like to go to my first open track day with someone who knows what they are doing. I am trying to get mine out for some testing to see how inadequete both the car (Apollo 13) and I am on a track that isn't a straight line and a 1/4 mile long--LOL. I just finished up the Speedtech stuff and have the new Rushforth from Jon on the car. Needs an alignment then it's ready to try and get some baseline #'s on the car before the next set of mods.
Roger, when I do make it out there, I would really like to come by your shop and get some tips on my Extreme Drag Radial car--you know, the kind you give to your golden boy (Holder) who always wins.
I hope I don't enjoy these open track days more than heads up stuff--I hope it's a push---or Visa/MC will be forced to be my sponsors.

Yeah I'm horrible about doing these things last minute lately... I'll try and give some notice next time. It never seems like I can get people out there. Its probably my short notice every time.
My first track day I took my car out with stock leafs, rear shocks, rear drums no subframe connectors, a bad coil, no g mod and still had a great time. You can actually hear the motor cutting out over 4k RPM and at WOT on the straights. It took some dyno time to figure out the coil was the cause...
I came home with a list of things I needed to improve, and each time I go out, I come home with a new list. This time I'm going out just for fun, and to take out some aggression on the track. I need to rework my steering and add a proportion valve, but its not stopping me from going out.
I also enjoy all the great people I meet at the track as well. Such a friendly fun group. If you are concerned about getting hooked, you should be, its an absolute blast!
Dane, seriously? So in those videos you were running with stock rear drum brakes, no frame connectors? That's right where I am at, but I wasn't sure if it would be ok to run like that. The front is setup with Upper and Lower Speedtechs, swaybar,DSE box and ATS spindles--Nitto tires all the way around on Rushforths--but just rearched leafs in back with poly bushings, DSE solid mounts--but alas, drums in the rear. What kind of top speed were you hitting--I love it when you pass the viper--he actually points you to pass. You are giving me hope here that I might be able to actually enjoy the car at the track and have a good time with it like this.

Great vids by the way---very, very cool.
Thanks for the compliment.
Seriously. Thats with qa1 coilovers, hotchkis front sway, stock subframe, no subframe connectors, stock leafs with lowering blocks, old shocks and rear drums. My car is a build in progress but theres no reason you can't enjoy it out there.
About 125-130 on the main straights and 110 or so in turn 1/2... I just padded my braking zone quite a bit and didn't push the limits too hard. You're not racing anyone, so your pace is really up to you. If someones on your tail, you give them a point by. Its really a safe environment to learn the limits of both yourself and your car. My car wasn't even running right that entire track day nor well sorted, but I still had a blast. Turned a 2:12.586 for the day.
It's not as safe as autocrossing, but a LOT more fun and you get a lot more seat time. Sessions are about 30 minutes and you get a 1-2 hour break between them to work on your car/rest whatever. There is a zero tolerance policy with unsafe drivers or people driving like idiots out there. Speedventures really is a great group to run with and Aaron runs a tight ship.

It's pretty easy to beat Roger Holder you just have to be more committed then him, The Hard part is whether some one could humanly be more committed then him. That Guy spends the MONEY and works on that car like a CRACK HEAD looks for CRANK. If I told you some of the tricks you would never believe it, now that they run the slick in that class, it is a totally different combination. I liked the Drag Radial, it is an unbelievable tire.
What class do you run in and which car? I wish I had more time to do the PSCA stuff, I loved the tuning, but the racers wives drama killed it for my wife ever wanting to go again. Tuning that car for some of those low 7.50 runs or that 7.45 when Roger pedaled it was unbelievable, Yeah He pedaled it, I saw it on the racepak. CRAZY

I remember him just getting used to the drag radial as the SCN in Vegas. We pitted real close to him (Dark Green/white stripes 69 Cam with F3 Procharger). He and Matt Schmidt started getting used to it and were busting out some impressive 7.70's--Rich Hoyle was struggling at that time. Fast forward, I just finished up my MBA, so I am now back to "trying" to finish up the race car once again. New chassis meant redo the plumbing, wiring, etc. Most of it is done, just finishing up light fab work. Lil Bri is close to me here in OC so he gets the big fab stuff. Hoping to be back out testing in Nov/Dec in Extreme Drag Radial--does the class still exist? LOL--I should check.
