9 inch wheel size - Lateral-g Forums

I found a ford 9 inch out of a 78 lincon mark IV 28 spline, Disk, and it is about 1 inch wide on either side. Can I fit 17 in wheels 245 front 255 back and fix the fit with back spacing or should i just cut the axle and go to 31 spline. I do need to by a locker and switch the ring and pinion. Any advice or sugestions would be sweet! thanks guys.

Well ---- first.... in order to even hazard a guess - it would really, really, depend on what you were putting it in...

The tire size isn't as important as wheel backspace...

What are you going to do about the wheel pattern difference? I'm not a big fan of the Lincoln rear disc setups, not because they don't work, but because the rotors and calipers were obscenely expensive the last time I checked. By the time you modify the housing to fit your '67 camaro, add a locker of some sort, regear, buy new axles, rebuild the brakes, etc...it might not be that much more $$$ to just buy a new aftermarket Ford 9 built to your specs. Just depends on how much you plan to do yourself I would think as labor can be a killer.

I was thinking the same EXACT thoughts --- way too much effort and $$ and when you're all said and done - you've still got a bastard child...

I work in a metal shop and can do most of the fab work myself. And I was planning on just ordering rear wheels in a ford bolt pattern, or switching to 31 spline and just ordering chevy pattern axles.
