2nd gen Camaros - Wondering....

What is a 1970 SS, Matching numbers, Orig Paint, all GM panels, complete car that needs a total restoration worth? I have found one for $5,000. What is it worth totally restored with bolt on pt pieces to the stock subframe, 18-inch wheels, stock interior with nice buckets, 13-inch brakes, etc?

Needs paint, interior, and everything else. Just an unmolested original car that has about 125,000 miles on it. If it were a 69, It would be worth $15-20,000 easily.

I have officially been bitten by the 2nd gen bug, but do not know the product or prices well at all. I like the 70 or 71 small rear spoiler, split front (rs package) bumper cars best. This one has the spoiler, but a solid front bumper. It appears you can change over the front for around $800.

Just wondering and wanting to get thoughts on the subject.

a matching numbers 70ss in the shape you are saying is totally worth $5K you are not saying what engine if it is a 350 or a 396 doesn't matter that much. now it sounds like you don't care all that much about how original the car is as you want to put the RS front on it. however starting with a solid car is much better then a basket case no matter what you are going to do to it. Anyway I would totally buy that kind of car for $5000

It is actually a 1971 SS, with a 350 and an auto trans. I would stroke it and make it a 383 with alum heads, etc.. Possibly put a tremec tko 600, but probably a 4L65E auto in it.

I appreciate your feedback, and I agree with you. I believe that almost any super solid car is worth $5,000 if it has all of the pieces and a fantastic body.

You will be hard pressed to do a complete RS conversion for $800. The Chrome grille surround will cost you close to $400 alone. You're looking at $2000 for a repop kit from Camaro Central ( the only ones I know of that sell a conversion kit) and it doesn't include the hood latch. Everything on the RS is different than a standard including the light harness and hood latch. $5000. doesn't sound bad if the sheetmetal is good.

If it is a good complete SS, sell it to me for 5500.00 and keep looking for more of a base car for less money. I would keep it stock unless it is a crappy car.

I bought the car! Super excited. I knew you guys would know the ins and outs.

The front end conversion with the hood latch and shipping will run $2,000 as was mentioned earlier, and the Camaro Central guys seem like a great bunch of people to deal with.

I may just leave it an SS. The idea of leaving it what it was born as is growing on me. It also has a vinyl top, and in a weird sort of way I kind of like that, too. I will update the site as I begin work. With the economy, it may be a while. Drat..........

Actually if I got hold of a 70-73 in good complete original condition that needs restoration I would keep it very original
they are cool cars as they where built. you can always do some minor suspension stuff and engine mods but keeping the car basically stock
