Default 69 Camaro brake pedal movement

My brake pedal has some lateral movement and doesn't hit the switch square when you release the brakes. The retainer clip and spring and everything is there correctly. Is there something I can do to stop the lateral movement?
It moves 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so.

Bushings are probably shot... They sell a rebuild kit for that.

If your set up is like mine, you need to take some washers and shim the clutch pedal shaft until the slop is mostly gone.

I've seen a photo that shows a plate that helps guide the pedal towards the brake light switch. I don't have that. Is it needed? Not sure if that was someones mod or not.
