The day the dream died

At one time I was a frequent poster on these boards. I became a lurker as my car became more and more of an afterthought. Not because I neglected it but because I could no longer afford to repair it. It seems sadder now thinking back on it. I had such plans for that car. I wanted the dream.

Now I sit at my desk with a check in hand and my car is sold. The buyer will be here to pick it up next weekend. The chances I will own another are somewhat slim as the economic circumstances that led me to sell the car are not likely to turn around anytime soon. I never even got to add one performance mod to it.

I just wanted to say thanks to those on these boards that made the car and and that dream so enjoyable. Now I will fade into the background again and wish I never had to sell my car. I may be around again one day.

Get every moment of enjoyment out of those cars guys. Drive it like you stole it.

I totally understand your feeling Russ. I am without a project myself for the first time in many years. It sucks, but you've got to do what's right for yourself and family. Another project will probably happen in the future.

im another victim of the economy also russ... my project has had to sit in my garage for the last 3 years untouched. I was just telling my wife how when i see other classics on the road even if there in rough condition i get so jealous and bummed that I cant even drive mine. also just yesterday i was driving on a stretch of the freeway during the same time of day I would drive on it when i was helping curtis re-build his car and just for a split second i was transported back in my camaro! lol

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Things are similar for me as far as my Mustang project being on the backburner, but I have the luxury of being able to drive my Camaro. In fact we're selling one of our daily drivers (2004 Tahoe) and the Camaro has become my daily driver. Just gotta keep a tool box in the trunk for any field repairs. Keep your head up and if you really want it, you'll figure out a way to get another project eventually.

A little pep talk here...keep you chin up Russ! The dream's not dead, just on hold, right? Did you lose your love for these cars? I think not. You've got what we all have and it's in your blood.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not without emapthy to your situation. I've been financially knocked down may times myself. Those days will never be forgotten. You on the other hand have your head, your heart and hopefully your health. You made a decision in the best interest of yourself and where you're at today. You got into the car, got out of the car and will one day get into another. Work hard, enjoy each day as best you can and soon enough things will turn around.

I saw a billboard a few months back: 'A funny thing about recessions, sooner or later they end.'

The beautiful thing about great forums like Lateral G is they create dreams and dreams are free. Dreams give us all something to live for especially in times like this.

Economies rise and fall just like the ocean tides and the latest tsunami we've been through. Hang in there as better times are on the horizon.

If you can rat-hole some of that check make it a goal to build that rat-hole into another car in the future.

Well said. When i come to lateral-g it makes me happy, it even gives me motivation to get through the tough times.

I am in the same boat. I sold my 67 chevelle to of forum member on new years day. I had the car just shy of 24 years. I am getting a divorce, filed Bankruptcy, lost job and I had to move in with my parents with my 2 kids. I cried the day David picked it up. I was glad to see that david who bought it was going to do some thing with it.

it can always be worse and I know about your broken heart and the dream that seems to have died. My chevelle out lasted my marriage and never treated me like crap.

I am not trying to make this about me, but don't be ashamed to shed a few tears and know that God has a interesting way of taking broken dreams and making things new again. I know one day that guys like us will have a hot rod again. I'm there with ya. I actually have a dream of one day maybe if the buyer of my chevelle decides to sell it, that I will buy it back.... Sorry to hear about the broken dream, but be thankful, things could be worse, even thought thats not what you want to hear right now....
