"Car Designer" - an idea for a new reality TV show???
Ya know, seein all the posts and hearin' all the comments on all the new cars shown in Detroit I started thinkin it'd be pretty interesting to do a TV reality show about what it takes to be a car designer. The whole season would be an automaker like GM or Ford or Chrysler to sponsor the show and then get a group of people to participate. The show would start out with maybe 2-3 small groups to form teams that would develop a design or maybe you just go head on person versus person. The automaker would pick a theme or car to design or redesign. Then they'd be given parameters for the vehicle and then the individuals or teams would have to develop a design from concept sketches to full presentation. The automaker could probably supply things to the contestants such as design materials and maybe support from the model shop to help them with presentation models and computer generated models.
The basic idea though is that you'd have to develop your design, present it at various levels until you have a solid design and then the final show you'd go up in front of all the big wigs, present your idea and then the winning design picked by the automaker gets made into a mock up show car for the Detroit show?
What do you guys think? Interesting? Lame? LOL!
"STEP RIGHT UP FOLKS YOU'RE THE NEXT CONTESTANT ON THE DESIGN IS RIGHT!"
I think it'd be cool. It's always entertaining to see how something's done. Like that episode of Rides where they show the whole development of the Shelby Cobra concept. Tht was cool. A lot goes into developing a car especially something that's iconic like the Cobra, Mustang and the Camaro. I wouldn't mind seeing a show like that. I'd make it similar to that show where they let somebody try and build a chopper and they have like 7 days to do it. I think Exile customs does the show and they get some young person in there to prove they can build one. Some fail and some get it built. Funny to see 'em come in cocky and then half way through they're sweatin' cause they now think they might not be able to do it.
If you were to do this show I wouldn't pick somebody like Chip or a well known - they already build cars and can do it. You'd get fresh raw talented guys and put them in a first ever real world experience. That I think would make it more of a challenge.
