Default AME 1st Gen subframe SBC header question

I'm considering installing the Art Morrison subframe in my 68 Camaro. I plan to run a SBC and I'm wondering if stock 1st Gen SBC headers will fit or do I need custom headers. The way the motor mounts are built it looks as if there could be a header clearance issue.

Hey JD - I can only comment on my experience trying to fit an LS in Art's GT clip. The AME clip is made to allow you to tuck headers up into the frame. Further, their clip set ride height a little lower than stock which is another reason why they provision a tight clearance up in the frame. AME makes those headers to fit, so while stock SBC headers may clear, you won't be taking adavantage of the lower ground clearance. Also - as you know - it's R&P steering so you don't have steering box issues to deal with.

I will say the header pricing @ ~ $600 is less than other aftermarket headers and I'm sure Frank or Matt could tell you more about fitment options.

Hey, Craig here - The headers we have were specifically built for our subframe and to fit around the steering linkage for a power rack and pinion steering. And they fit up tight too - they don't hang below the subframe. When the headers were built, we c-clamped a sheet of plywood to the bottom of the sub, so the header builder couldn't go below that.

The headers, gaskets, bolts and exhaust stubs go for $625 bare, and ceramic coating is an extra $375 if you want that. If you do go with them, I think you will be very happy and should save you some grief trying to fit another kit that wasn't designed specifically for our subframe.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!
