Default What size wheel and tire combo?

I am converting my strip/street car back into more of a street/strip car.

Here is my car as it sits with a 28 inch slick and a 26 inch front runner. It is at stock height front/rear. The car works pretty good at the track with this setup.

Here is the car with the previous 26 inch radial setup and a 24 inch front runner and lowered 1.5 inches in the rear.

I will be putting either a Budnik M5 or G5, 18x8 in the front with 26 inch tires that I already have. My issues are about the rear wheels.

I was leaning towards a 20x9 but not sure whether to go with a 26 or 27 and lowering it again or maybe even a 28 and keeping it at the height it is. Any opinions? How bout 18's and a 26 inch tire?

Any input is appreciated.

Wheel diameter is a very personal preference kind of thing so the final call is what your eyes and heart tell you.

Here's one of our client's cars we put 18s on but if it were my car, I wouldn't think twice about doing 18s up front and 19s in back.

I personally thing the 2" stagger (18" front / 20" rear) looks terrible and mismatched. Like JayR said, an 18/19 stagger is common and looks good. I prefer the same wheel size front to rear. Again, diameter is all personal choice, but nailing offsets and such is the technical part.

A nice set of wheels will really wake up that car.

interesting. i never considered 19's and ive had about 8 sets of wheels on this car over the years. ive gotten dozens of compliments on the cwi wheels on it now (even though most people think they are the billet specialties streetlight). they are super light weight and they are sfi approved but not ideal for street driving. i want to switch the look up a little bit when im not at the track.

i just saw the feb 2011 car of the month on this site, the white 69, has a pretty nice stance with a 19/18 combo. i also read it has a 27.x inch tire which would work great .something definitely to consider.

thanks for the help

Same here not a fan of the 2" stagger, except when the back rim is 1/2 covered by the fender.
the 18/19 combo is becoming very popular.
we are doing a 70 mustang right now and will be putting 18's all arround with a 275/35 and 245 35 tires on it. and it should sit nice with the suspension we are designing for it.

Default need your guys help

i could use your guys help/advise here.

i really want to run a 19/18 setup with a 27 inch rear tire. that means either a 255/35 on a 19x8 or a 275/35 on a 19x10 or 19x9. the problem is i can't fit a 19x10 and nobody makes a 19x9 unless i pay $$$ to narrow the 10. something about a 255 rear tire screams rainbow love so i probably wont do that. i really dig the subtle stagger of the 19/18 look.

should i:

a) run a 20/18 setup
b) run 18's all around
c) run a 19/18 with a puny rear tire

someone help me make this call. i need to place my order in the next few days.

just run 18s then... i dont like 20 18 stagger and think its a waste to run after market rims and not run good size meats...
