Default engine/ trans help

Well im now at the point to where i need to get a motor and transmission.

i was looking at GMs performance catalog and Part # 19244549 ls376/480. Im guessing i can get the engine for $6000 to $6500. Now if i get a crate engine i still need to get all the accessories which will add more money

I could also get a ls2/t56 out of a GTO for around $5000 to $6500. Most likely 6k. I know im losing HP but its hard to pass up having a complete setup for the price.

Another option is to have travis build me something. I made a call to him later today so im just waiting to hear back from him. Im not sure how much a ls3/t56 setup from him would cost.

Anyone have any feedback on the engine/ trans package you bought from travis? Estimated cost, positives and negs

Is the ls3 worth it over a ls2 power wise? Im guessing there cant be to much difference in price between the two used.

Anything different, harder, or more to it going to a ls3 over a ls2?

Buying a GM crate engine worth it due to the fact you have a brand new engine? In the long run buying all the extra parts to finish the crate engine outway it?

t56 or tr6060?

What size exhaust staying NA?

Car will mainly been driven street but whenever goodguys is around i will be autocrossing it. Im looking for the best overall value. Ive went way over my budget now but i dont want to really be doing this all over again later on which would over the long run would cost me more money.

I know Travis very well and have bought several from him. PM me if you'd like to chat about it.

After what I have gone through it would be cheaper to buy or have a long block built and go from there. According to my builder he can do an LS3 with 24X capability for under well under 4K.

Plan ahead and even then you have changes mid build. Remember one change can affect many other options of the build.

If you are going to get a complete engine make sure you get the harness PCM and pedal that came with the car.

i might go with a speartech harness is i bought a crate engine. A ls3 ready to go for under 4K? not bad at all.

Power wise i would want a 450-500 hp motor. Really a LS3 with a cam. Nothing too crazy. This would be a ncie starting put and upgrade as i go.

from all the build's i've done, its always been cheaper for me to start out with a full pullout vs piecing everything together

Just my .02, I went with the 2006 gto drop in, and once the car is all finished, if I want a little more umph, l92 heads with a nice cam, that's my thought at this point.
