Default T-56 Magnum noise at speed

Hey us-
Looking for some help from those who know the T-56. Mine has only about 250 miles. ZZ4 350 crate motor in early Camaro.

On freeway above 60 if I push clutch in, I get a noise that sounds like something 'dragging'..not a grinding...but still not right. It seems to do it with clutch not pushed in (off throttle) too but it's less obvious. Under power it sounds fine although things are louder so who knows. So, with clutch in or coasting in gear, I get the sound. Tremec suggested switching to synthetic fluid. It made no difference with the noise.

Around town, under say 50mph, it shifts and drives great...this is bugging me and I want to be sure I'm not making it worse by driving it.

Thoughts?

What bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, and throwout bearing are you using?

Did you check the runout in the housing?

How much free play between the pressure plate fingers and throwout bearing?

Pilot bearing greased?

Thx Sieg,

McLeod clutch and pp
Bell was existing from 4-spd in car before my time
I had a speed shop install and thy did runout/alignment measures. Said it all checked out in spec.
ZZ4 flywheel resurfaced
TO bearing unknown.

This is wacky since it shifts/drives great at lower speeds but I wanted OD to get on the freeway...

So you used an adapter plate?
The shop said it was OK...............what were the specs that made it OK?
Throwout bearing clearance was?

If they can't spec it they most likely didn't check it and that could be the source of your problem....but you don't know until you check it.

Those specs need to be confirmed as part of the trouble-shooting process.

So, you'd say it's standard operating procedure that a shop would need to log all of these measurements? I've read that housing runout is mandatory but that was it, I thought?

My installer is already pointing the finger at the trans itself, but I highly doubt that.

I'm saying assumptions interfere with trouble shooting the cause.

All the questions come from the installation manual for a T56.

A T56 will not bolt up to a standard bellhousing. What adapter plate was used or how did the installer make the connection? A Quicktime bellhousing is one of the few that may not require runout adjustment.

If he's pointing the finger at the trans, ask him to qualify his work first. There's more defective mechanics than defective T56's.

If it gets worse pushing in the clutch, I'd lean towards the throw out bearing.
