Default Mike's 1969 Camaro Convertible Protouring project

Yes this is a post of my 1969 Convertible Camaro build, but be fore I get started here is a little history on the one and only restoration project I have done and completed up to now. I bought this 1970 RS/SS in 2009 it had 51k original miles!

7 months later here is what I accomplished!

So after I sold the '70 camaro 3 months after I finished her, I flipped a few projects ('55 small window, a '55 Big window and a '55 Belair HT) and made some $$. I bought the Camaro I always wanted!! A 1969 Camaro Convertible. I found her on CL and she was mine an hour later, this was Mothers Day 2012. Here are the only two pics I took that day.

Two days later on Tuesday evening after only driving the car for two days, the Goodwrench 2 barrel, 2 bolt main 350 was out. Engine bay was quickly prepped with a spray can and waiting for the ZZ4 I picked up from a friend for $500!! It was supposed to go in my friends circle track car but rules changed and he could run a 4 barrel so his engine sponsor gave him a complete new motor. Lucky for me this motor was taking up space in his shop....$500 honest, I felt a little guilty-- just a little! Here are pics after new valve covers, intake, carb etc...

These pics are 10 days after I bought her.. so Mid-May 2012

More updates to come

So For the summer of 2012 we enjoyed cruising around evenings and weekends here in SoCal. The only changes done after the motor swap were exhaust, cutting a coil from the front springs to get a more desirable ride height and some adjustments to the convertible top. My son even started getting some interest from some neighborhood girls when the car was around...haha.

So fast-forward to February of this year (2013), teardown begins!

So off we got to get the 4 layers of paint blasted off! The car had the factory Red paint and then 3 more paint jobs over the years, only one of those repaints was 2-stage the other two were single stage.

No turning back now- what have I gotten myself into!!

So back from blasting and yep just as we had known quarter panels had been replaced back in the 90's, top notch job though so just a few tweeks here and there were needed.

Metal work to be done- repair a few small rust areas, smooth fire wall, shave marker lights, shave door and trunk locks but leave door handles, shave exterior emblems, shave interior dash above glove box and factory speaker mesh holes.

Some great things were said on this forum about John Henson former owner of Driversinc, so i tracked him down. He owns NewGen wheels and has also started another wheel co. called Forged Union. I met with him and we went over a few design ideas for a split spoke 5 star wheel, and let me tell you its gonna be Awesome!!! Should have them in a few weeks or so.
19x 9.5 in the rear, 18x 8 up front.
Eye mechanic- I love the drawing!! You have Mad skills! The '69 wil be Black with Red interior, i think it will be a blood red interior like the new BMW's, but I'm open for any suggestions on what shade of red.
