70 Camaro front tire size

I have a 70 Camaro with stock front sheet metal and inner fenders. It has an Art Morrison GT-Sport front clip... What have others found to be a suitable front tire size?
I'll be running 18" front wheels, and want to go as wide as possible, but want to start with something that should fit. Barely!
I'm just looking for somewhere to start!

I have 245/40's on 18's w/ 4.5 back spacing. Fits fine at higher suspension heights, I just installed ridetech's front setup and lowered it... hoping I'm still fine. I have seen people running 255's as well with stockish setups. Not sure how the different front clip would impact you.

Are all of the cars we see running real low using modified inner fenders? Where can I get some that aren't anvil (which I'm not sure you can actually even buy anything from given my experience).

That's part of what I'm wondering; what difference there may be with a non stock front clip. I see a lot of threads that note a tire size, but no always backspacing, front subframe, or modified inner fenders...
I was expecting to start with a 255...

Lowered 70's will take a 275 on a 9 with 5 3/4" back space.

I've run 285's on 10 with a 6" bs but it takes work to get them to not rub

Seems like if you're tucked in from the fender lip there's lots of room on the inside, problem there is the sway bar at full lock?
