Thanks to the efforts of racing enthusiasts nationwide, over 100,000 signatures were collected in less than 24 hours for a White House petition demanding the EPA cancel its proposal to make it illegal to convert street cars into racecars. The administration has heard our voice, now it’s time for Congress to act. U.S. Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Bill Posey (R-FL) and Lee Zeldin (R-NY) have introduced the bipartisan “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016” (RPM Act), H.R 4715, which makes clear Congress’ intent to exclude competition-only cars from the scope of the Clean Air Act, including converted street vehicles. This bill is about converting street cars into race cars used exclusively for competition. I'm not sure how that effects restoring an old muscle car and driving it once a week on the road.
