Default Are you running a Tremec TKO-500, TKO-600, or T-56?

Are you running a Tremec T-56, TKO-500, or TKO-600 in your car? If so, which transmission did you go with and why?

T-56, traded my Muncie 4 speed straight across for it.

TKO 600, installled in my 69 Chevelle 12 years ago. Back then there was not any other 5 speeds that would work behind a 548 pump gas motor. I had a Doug Nash in my 32 roadster, but wanted an overdrive for the Chevelle.

I don't read many people listing two overdrive gears as a large factor in their decision making. Price, size, weight, Tq rating and smooth shifting tend to all come up in these discussions, but rarely the gap between 4th and OD.

Any thoughts? There might also be a "cool" factor to a 6-speed vs a 5 speed, right?

I'm currently in the middle of this thought process. My application is a 3200#car with +/- 340 rwtq, 3.73 rear, 25.6" tall tires and .59 or .64 OD.

I have a t56 in my 01 TA. I swapped one into my 89 TA. I'm working on swapping f-body t56s into my 69 Firebird and 68 Camaro.

I'm using them because they are stong and I was able to get them much cheaper than any aftermarket trans.

I have a close ratio t56 Magnum for my 67 Firebird.

I like the gear spread and OD ratios of the f-body t56. I thought it was a little odd that Tremec used the shorter ODs in the close ratio Magnum, and the tall ODs in the wide ratio Magnum when the GM t56s and TR6060s are the other way around.

I was hoping to buy a cheap Vette TR6060 and convert it into a Magnum, but it's basically not possible to get one cheap enough to be worth the effort. They are actually a reasonable price for a brand new 6 speed that can handle the power they do.

I have no desire for a 5 speed, but I'd consider a TKO-600 as an easy direct swap into a 4 speed car, if I didn't want to go to the trouble of swapping in a t56.

I purchased my 68 Camaro with a t56, but considering my engine is only pushing 520hp/505lbs, the tunnel cutting, and even with a 4.10 rear I rarely get to 6th gear in the hills (and traffic) around the Bay Area I would have been happy with a TKO-600.
