short sidewalls do not do anything for traction.. but with that said a drag radial 275/40-17 or simmillar should be possible to get some good times on, but unless your rear brakes dictate big.. you could drop down to 15 inch rear rims on the strip to get bigger contact patch..

i am also certain that suspension tuning, and practice could get in you in the high to mid 4 second rage in that car on what you are running, provided your tires grip...

a 3 somthing time is getting down there in 60 foot times.. but chevelles dont make bad drag cars, i doubt you will get there on michelin road race slicks, and definately not on cold ones...

i do think that if you are able to get that straight line performance it will at the expense of some cornering and over all handling performance.. you will need more weight transfer, meaning drag race shocks, and relocated trailing arms, and the more aggressive you set up the rear the more prone to wheel-hop it will be at breaking.. you will also need to disconnect the front antisway bar to get some more travel and a myriad of drag specific mods, and lastly. running a clutch you need to get the launch just right..

al of this is allong with soft drag race tires can get your 0-60 where you want and lower, but it wont be able to keep up with an EVO or STI in the corners..

In the next few days I will try to launch again. With no burnout, and jsut dunping the clutch a 4k, I got a 4.5 second 0-60. I need to find the sweet spot, it was almost a smoke show I had to pull second about 10 feet out to move. Dang stick shifts.

I have a 68 twin turbo camaro with a Mcleod twin disc clutch. It has 18" wheels with 295/35-18 Michelin pilot sport tires. My 0-60 times are in the low 4 second range if I slip the clutch through first gear( like a high stall converter) with no wheelspin.I would like to try other tires but I drive 40 miles a day.80-140 times are more impressive!
