1/4" MDF for the sides and 1/8th" for the top so it could flex.

That looks awesome Max. I'm still trying to design one for my car where I can relocate my stereo lower, make a smooth transition to the lower dash, and keep the center console glove box. Oh yeah, and make it look good like you did. My latest idea of making it out of Pringles kinda fell apart when I started eating my work....
