I have about 300 photos detailing the various stages of the build/transformation, but because I never really dropped off the car for a full resto at a shop, its kind of a frankenstein of a build right now.

I pan on eventually having it cosmetically restored and gone through, but not until I'm done having fun chipping the pain around the road courses.

Any particular photos you're interested in seeing?

The suspension was so poorly thought out and not sorted out. I was not a well educated buyer unfortunately. I didn't over pay either so no biggie.

The previous owner built it with his son, and it was primarily used to cruise to cruise nights only. It had a race theme going on, but lacked the performance aspects to match the looks (at least in my mind).

Yes and no. I am in pain management over at USC center for pancreatic diseases. I suffer from chronic pain daily. My ability to work/drive my cars has been impacted greatly. Some days I manage to get out and enjoy them, but for now, the cars are the only things keeping my mind sane. This condition is likely for life, so I'm working on finding a happy medium between the pain, and living my life.

I will say one thing though, I don't feel any pain when I'm focused at the race track. I am far too busy trying to not kill myself and keep the car on the track. I have to take myself off my pain meds the day before any track day, so track days take some real dedication and suffering to even attend and go to. Its worth it, and I'm putting all my heart into it. I got a dog, and thats helping quite a bit as well. Funny little critters are great companions.

Hes already been up to 145mph in a chance encounter with a Ferrari F430. I was absolutely SHOCKED to find that I was still pulling away from it when I shifted into 5th. I expected the Ferrrari to blow by me, and it was the first and only chance I've had to use 5th under full throttle. Big block torque sure does come in handy. The ferrari owner was shocked and pulled up next to me and gave me a huge thumbs up and a grin and then shook his head. He was baffled. His wife was laughing her head off. He messed with the wrong camaro.

The dog didnt even flinch at high speed, he was in his crate and belted in

In other news, I cracked the stock oil pan on the zz502 on a manhole cover here in Silver Lake. The streets are horrible here. Unfortunately after reworking the headers, the oil pan became the lowest point on the car. I noticed the oil while filling my tires with air, and got the car home before it even dropped pressure. It dumped out 6-7 quarts in a pan in my garage.

This is the second time I've cracked a pan on this car in Silver Lake. The streets suck and my car is too low. This was the first time:




I just received a Milodon Road Racing Pan, which is lower profile than the stock pan by 2" inches. I never experienced any oil pressure issues at the track with the stock pan, but I figured I might as well do the right thing and go with a road race pan.

The hot tip for road racing due to trap door baffle system is to provide adequate oil supply on left & right turns. Proven highly effective in SCCA and other competition. Also great for very low Camaro, Chevelles and Covette in all applications including road race to drag race. Fits Mark IV 396-454 and stroker Big Blocks. With most aluminum rods, pan will fit up to a 41/2" stroke without modification.

I'll get the new pan on, and then its time to get that spoiler on there and attend a track day before making any more changes.

I'll also be ordering some street wheels/rubber that are more traditional trans am and doing a custom cage. Not sure how extensive the cage will be yet. I need to have siome guys look at my seating position and propose some ideas. I'd like to still be able to drive the car on the steet with the cage, so I'm leaning towards a roll hoop with a x and crossbar for my belts.

You could always mod the pan to yield more clearance.. beat bleeding out if you bottom out

Great car, and it runs hard. Hopefully we can get to the track together next year once my car is back in one piece.

And yes, power steering is the ONE luxury I insist on..

A dying breed but we sound so much better

If I ever get the money, I'm going aluminum bbc with a dry sump built by Tom Nelson.

I'll post up some pictures of the pan. I thought about doing an accusump as well.

Definitely this year. I was in the hospital when you guys went out to buttonwillow I think. Its staggering to think how many great events and things I've missed out on due to my health. I'm sick of it. From now on, I'm showing up on a stretcher, running and going back to the hospital.

Power steering changed my world, and I've yet to even get a chance to play with it at the limit, just around town and a few onramp drifts

No autocrossing yet, but I have considered it, both for cost and convenience. It was impossible without the power steering so it wasn't an option before. It would be a great chance to work out car control with all these new mods.

Thanks man. Hes a 4 month old French Bulldog. Animals really do help heal.
