I feel pretty good about a lot of the stuff I've been fabbing especially given that I"m entirely "internet" taught and have crappy Harbor Freight levels of tooling and a tiny shop. Nothing to compare to the pro's not to mention the people on this thread. But what always blows me away isn't so much the thought and ability that goes into making these pieces - I'd like to think my mind works in some of the same ways.
What always makes me laugh at my own crap is the level of perfection in all the pieces. I can do some metal shaping and TIG it together nicely enough, but everything I do has a home made quality to it. THere is always some slight asymmetry, big scratches in the surface, messed up corners or places where I have to put things into tension to keep them aligned.
And the grinder and some bondo can cover up a lot of problems.
But when I look at things like that submarine car and it looks like it came straight out of a hot rod extrusion machine.....I still can't manage to completely planish all the hammer bumps out of a small piece of metal.
That is what is depressing about looking at incredible work like this !
Of course I only spend 20 hours a week hot rodding, always under a lot of time pressure, and only for the last 10 years. I guess I could imagine a world where 50 hours of fabbing a week for the last 40 years might get you pretty good at stuff.
My favorite car at the SEMA show was Robbie Gordon's Hummer. Check out this a arm. SWEET

Besides the body mods what did this start out as 1,2 or 3? Kinda hard to tell. I need to get some tires and beadlocks like that for mine.
I started thinking what actually INSPIRED me to change a stock Camaro. I know there's a ton of builds out there.
But at the beginning prior to becoming a member here, not scrolling through the web and basically only hitting local shows my inspiration came from Scott G's Camaro. Ive seen several cars in mags that were really nice but in person for a Camaro, thats what got me thinking, then came the G force Cuda. When the Brunning boys started the E-ticket Challenger thats what gave me inspiration to do a custom chassis.
I cant believe this post died out,need some new material,cant do any manual labor for 2 mnts thanks to a couple of back surgeries.Nows the time to research.I have so many next steps for my project that I wasnt able to accomplish before my surgery now theyll be so much more,be busy for a while.Anybody have access to the older stuff Troy took off his website(Blowfish,Chicane,Notorious)maybe Dan H. can help out there,you have anything else Rodge,that bajatruck link is one of my favs,is that theTerrible Herbst inhouse or outsourced chassis shop,thanks Rich

A lot of the processes and jig stuff is the same with metal as it is with other materials - so I like to look at bunches of sites that can inspire and be cross utilized. (plus I like woodworking too) Here's a couple to cruze !
