Default Metal cleaning and prep for welding

What do you guys use to clean off any rust or paint or seam sealer before welding in panels? DA and 80 grit?

^^^^^^^^^ What Stefan said -- basically -- whatever works.... I've used dental picks.... screwdrivers...

IF you use wire wheels == PLEASE wear eye protection..... those things fly off with some serious velocity!

I know it's probably not typically used but DO NOT use a chlorinated brake cleaner and weld with anything using argon. The combination produces phosgene gas (which is far worse than what comes out of me after a Klondike bar).

Most everyone probably knows by now but just in case.
