Hey, it was fun riding around with you. I can see you've definitely picked up a little bit of Mary's driving style, and that's not a bad thing. I think if you stiffened Payback up front and rear you'd get more out of the car. You looked like you had pogo sticks for coil overs in the front. When the nose went down into corners it would bounce up and down at least once. It was the weirdest thing to watch. Anyway, she really surprised me how well she hussled around that parking lot, you know for having a big block, and all (I kid, I kid - the car was flat out fast). Now that you too are renting a hired gun, I'm sure you'll soon have a car that Brian can drive fast too

Matt
Glad you were along for the ride on my best lap. The engine braking in my car will make the front end bite pretty hard just easing off the throttle a hair mid corner. Not sure if that's what you are talking about.

Having enough space is one of the big challenges. Having a residence with a large enough lot to put up a 40x60ish shop would be very convenient.
I really don't worry about it anymore. I throw some bath towels over the fenders and tape things up as needed. You have to remember that this car has almost 7k and 25 races or more on it's belt. It's got some scars from all the good times.

If you build the race /street car! You are very capable of doing it.. I paid more attention to the details on your 69 this weekend.. Your work speaks for itself.. Awesome work! Just don't let the compliment go your head..
Big compliment from you Cris. It's been a blast noodling eachother over the last few months.

It was your idea.

That's why I picked up that little lightweight cheap foxbody to beat on....lol. I would hate to see you sell Payback as it just does everything so well. But....I understand you thoughts of building a purpose built trackcar.
I've had two people walk up to me at events and say, "It's a shame to do this to that car". My response is, "It would be a shame not too". Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed.

That's great but where's the challenge? I can buy a new ZR1 and go fast. This deal is about talking the coolest cars in American history and turning them into capable modern cars.

Hard to believe a boy from Pierre, SD could grow up to be such a dreamer. I'll be ready.

I agree drive them and drive them hard. I have taken mine to the dragstrip probably 20 times. Maybe just need to bust my cherry and go slide this car around some corners ...lol.

Seems not along ago you were firm on keeping the 19" for looks vs. performance and now you are searching for every 1/10 of a second Why not gut your car or put it on a diet? I think you would be $$$ ahead imo. Building a new race ispired car could take a long time even if funded by the sale of Payback.

**Another key thing is you are engaged which means rugrats come next and extra hours in garage will be replaced by diaper duty

Hey Todd, can you expand upon your impressions of the shock change? Where did you feel like they were better? I'm guessing the improvement is along the lines of less snap oversteer coming out of corners, and just more predictable under throttle?

It will be very interesting to see what your feeling is on road courses...I bet the valving is going to let you get on the throttle much earlier than before.

I knew I should've kept my mouth shut. I don't want to go down that road with this car. It's just to complete and nice. Another car would be a more budget minded all business car. I hated my 19's like 3 years ago so you must have your head under a rock somewhere.

Steven, I'd describe it as more in control. I noticed the difference on the street almost immediately. I'm glad you asked because now that I reflect on the feel difference, the old shocks were to bouncy when they had what I now know is enough rebound. The lateral grip has definitely increased. It would get loose but well in control and savable. With the old shocks, it would break loose and it was hard to recover.

Now, that course certainly wasn't the ultimate test but I have little doubt that it will improve the car at higher speeds. I agree that I can get on the throttle a litte sooner and it may have a little more forward bite. I didn't feel like I was just mowing off tire tread down the short straights. I wasn't exactly stomping on the loud pedal and I'm not sure I was getting to full throttle but definitely well into the four barrel. I really can't say it gets out of the hole better just yet. I do expect better 60 foot times at the drag strip but that's a whole different deal.

I'm running at least one SCCA event in May on large lots. I'll report back. So far, well worth the $600.
