Default Wacky 70's Volare/Aspen Kit Race Car

Look what I stumbled onto.....

http://www.race-cardrivers.com/Chrys...Trans%20Am.htm

The link is really that long. You might need to copy/paste for it to work right. Here's the pic. These cars were sold as kits by Chrysler. Scan the whole page for the old school "kit" ads. Here's a coupla pics. Who woulds thunk that a Volare would make a killer, cheap starter car for a pro-touring project?

That's pretty bad ass. Too bad you can't get stuff like that for a reasonable price from GM, Porsche or others brands these days. I know they have the BIW chassis, but this thing was a race car in a box. The ads are pretty cool too. $8k new? It's probably more than that now!

Yeah, the W2 is an older Mopar style of small block head made by Mopar Performance. Can be ported to get into the 315 inch range of flow on the intake side. Since been replaced with the P5/P7 stuff.

That looks pretty dang cool. I love that it was available directly from Chrysler. That's probably the neatest thing about them.

Accelerating is optional...........stopping is mandatory. Your car WILL stop one way or another.

Porsche does it with their GT2 and GT3 RSRs. Having toured a million Grand Am and World Challenge shops, i love seeing these as cars fresh out of the box in plain white--all shiny and new.

Porsche has made it so that developing a GT car from scratch is dumb. Ford Racing has it figured out with the Boss 302R turn-key package for GS. racing You can literally just unwrap these cars and do basic set-up. No fab work.

I could not find a pic of an out-of-the-box 302R.

Default Street Version

Here is a picture from the web of the street version. Find one in good condition and do some creative fab on those bumpers and you got yourself a pretty unique car. Modern Hemi?

I used to have a 77 Volare roadrunner. I'll post pics one day. Don't see many around any more. Must have all got crushed.
