Just kidding, where i grew up in Fremont, CA, there was a group of people running the nimitz at night with that option, Fremont PD thought i was one of them in my camaro, 1984, they cased me for two weeks, then left. Back when they had resources to do things like that.

I know y'all will think I'm crazy, but when I was driving my car during the first build, I had no security device on my car. More than likely, I won't put one on there this time either. As bad I as I would love to, I never drive my car where I got to leave it. No movies, no grocery store, no ball games, no restaurants for dinner....no nothing. I hate to deprive myself, but I know that no security device will stop theives. If they want it, they get it...just as someone else just said. Now, if they carjack me, they can have it. I'm not willing to die over it. But, I never, never, ever, ever leave my car unattended. True story...I was driving my car one time and my wife called me to stop and bring home some bread. I drove about 20 minutes home to put my Chevelle up and got into my regular car and went back to Wal-Mart to get the bread. And it was daylight and I probably could have went in the store, bought the bread and been back out in 10 minutes. My car's license plate isn't registered to my home address either. Therefore, a thief cannot get the address where the car is kept. It is registered to an address where the car is never stored. My car is kept at my house, of course, but the license plate is registered to a relatives house in another part of town thats 40 minutes away from where I live. Every now and then I;ll drive it to work at the fire station. I even park it inside the apparatus bay with the fire truck and ambulance. The apparutus bay is what civilians would call the garage.

I would never do such a thing.... But I might have pulled it in out of the pouring rain to wipe it down.... and I might have dozed off while it was sitting there...

what about installing some sort of line lock hidden feature. They cant drive it if all 4 tires are locked up. Now this doesnt help you if they tow your car.

Pretty much my approach also. In CA you are not required to leave registration in car - it merely has to be there (on your person) when you are driving it. I don't leave registration in my DD either.

I do want to drive it distances, road trips and the like. I'm making it a modern day corvette, but its still not replaceable. I am very grateful i even have this problem, in a world where not everybody has running water and a place to take (actually leave) a crap!!!
It has a shut off valve built in. So even if a thief finds my fuel pump switch and starts the car, he will only get a few hundred yards before the fuel in the carb runs out.
Not foolproof, especially if the thief brings a tow truck, but it will slow down the joy riders.
Plus you will get notified of the theft a lot quicker when someones calls the police concerning an abandoned car in the middle of the road.
I'm working on a steering shaft lock for my Ididit column. Motorcycles all have them, why not enthusiast cars. It's a bit of a challenge making it convenient, but I'm close. Unfortunately, I'll never offer the device for sale because of liability.

1. I have an on/off switch to the batteries in the trunk. When I leave my car for more than a few minutes I'll pop open the trunk and flip the car off. This kills 100% of all power to the car.
2. My car is on air bags. When I air out the car, the cross member is sitting on the ground. When I combine this with killing power in the car, it will be very hard to move the car. Even if they winch the car I would like to think it's almost impossible.
Removing the steering wheel wouldn't be a bad idea either. I might have to look into that.

What was the problem with this one ?
Because I do something similar - instead of a kill switch that can be found and switched, I use an oddball electrical connector with some stubbed wires on it. The car won't start or run without this connector plugged in. My car is pretty well put together but an errant connector that is under the dash does not look out of place at all, and with 6 wires running to it with no identification it would be difficult to hot wire (some are 12v, some are ground).
