I have a '69 Camaro and would like an idea of how much body work would cost. The shell is in pretty good shape, but I really don't know what is underneath until it is blasted.
I want to do the DSE mini tubs, straighten all the body etc. Just want and idea so I know when I start talking to paint guys. Thanks ahead of time for your input.
There are alot of factors to change the price. Paint ( Brand, color, metallics, pearls, candys, etc.) How much body work, you say the car is pretty straight? You said your going down to Bare metal which is the best way to do it. Just to give you an idea, Were looking at spending somewhere between $5k-$8k for paint and final sanding/polish and thats with my dad and I doing all the bodywork, and priming, sanding up to 320 grit. It all depends but for a full job, depending on the shop, I'd say somewhere in the neighbor hood of 7k-15k. And were not talking macco. Goodluck
Gordz is pretty damn close. Your looking at somewhere around 200 hours, in the $10K range from rough bodywork to final paint, which make Gordz $5k to $8k from 320 grit up about right. Figure a couple quarter panels, some normale lower door rust repair, trunk pan, some floor patches, 100 hours or so, mini tubs, another 50 hours. So $15k to $20K rolling with everything that can be painted is painted inside, outside under and over.
Thanks for the replies. I budgeted for 15K right now. I just want the bodywork done now and then epoxy primered so I can assemble and test fit everything. Final paint will come later. I should be OK at that budget for initial bodywork and maybe have a little extra in case something turns up after blasting. Thanks again guys. I will post some pics of what base I have to start with soon.
For 15K you could buy all the required tools and just budget the time to do the bodywork and paint yourself. Save tons of money in the process. And have cash left over to buy killer brakes/safety equipment. And still be able to take the old lady to Hawaii.
most people think 15k is alot, so taking a chance that the bodywork and paint will come out like **** is not worth it, and i can promise you the first timer will not get the results of a good shop, the hard part is finding a good shop.
and i might add, that the 15k price goes out the window when you finally decide your in over your head and load it up and take it to a good shop. take that 15k...and plan on paying for them to strip it back down and do it their way....cuz no (good) shop will stand behind a paint job put over somebody elses prep work.
Here is the starting point of my project. I purchased this for 11K. A bit pricey, but it is in real good shape. Hopefully when it is blasted there won't be too many surprises....
