Default September Art Show

Looks like I get to start another one. I guess thats what I get for living in Ohio. Well lets get started.

Here is my take on the theme build. I hope I honored the heritage of the Laguna. I started playing around with this one rather late, but did have some fun with this one. I was going for a street car with strong NASCAR influence. It took me a while to decide to go with the older or newer style. Once I got into it, I don’t know if this can be done, but I have the newer front and the older style rear. NASCAR influences include the stainless steel front & rear spoilers, recessed flip up gas cap and side exhaust. Another feature I tried to incorporate is the head/tail light covers. The fronts aren’t too special, just smoked Lexan vacuuformed to smooth out the front and cover updated projector beam headlights attached with exposed rivets. The rear covers mount the same way but cover a custom tail light cluster. I have wanted to get some newer Mazda or Lexus tail lights and cut out the light portions (including the chrome ring) and make a fiberglass piece for a factory look. I thought this would reinforce the race look. I also tried to combine the older & nwerer by putting round lights in the bigger rectangular hole. I put a modified 67/68 Camaro rear bumper along with a new rolled pan for a lighter look out back. I also added a gas tank cover to help clean up & re emphasize the race look of the rear. The front bumper gets lightly reworked by using expanded stainless in the grill opening along with enlarged brake ducts (now functional). To help match the new rear bumper, I flipped the treatment on the bumper insert by painting the factory chrome piece and chroming the part that is black. The scoops on the hood are from an early 90's Camaro (91) along with the mirrors. I hope you enjoy it. This was a fun project.
