71 nova with 396 header ?

I'm helping a friend with his car and have found that the drivers side header is hitting the steering box. We just switched to a DSE power box and are now looking for headers that will clear. Or would going to a rack/pinion set up be another option for clearance. I've seen some cast block huggers that might work, just not sure if that is the answer. Thanks in advance for any help. The car started as a 6cyl. and was converted to a BB 396. I also thought maybe the frame to motor mounts may be for a SB. Not sure how much that could change things for clearance.
