Default '67 10 bolt or '98 LS1 rear???

I'm converting my 67 Camaro from 327/powerglide to LS1/T56. I was planning on using the LS1 rear and building a torque arm suspension.... but I'm hearing it may be weaker than the 67's 10 bolt.

So I pose the question which would be better/stronger? Both will require some fabrication and a new shock/spring set up. Eventually I'll upgrade but not with this tax return.

I never looked at it until yesterday, but it seems the LS1 brakes can be adapted fairly easily to the 10 bolt. Having the stock ratios, obviously I'd have to regear if I'd like 6th to be useful under 100.
