I like my Droid X and it is about two years old. I am going to look at the Samsung Galaxy's next. I have enjoyed the Android based phones that I have been around. The iPhone is the standard so you can't go wrong with those either. They are probably the most intuitive phones out there and all of the smartphones these days are very customizable.
