1awg and 1/0 are the same size. You can google stranded wire ampacity chart and you will see what size you need for a given total amp load. For most applications 2awg or 2/0 will be plenty. The exception would be typically for high power stereo systems. Hope that helps.

Not to step on your toes but #1 is smaller than 1/0 , O.D. of #1 is .58 ,1/0 is .62.
Resistance of #1 is .134 and 1/0 is .106
