Default Wire wheels and paint adhesion question

I have a question for those more experienced than I. I stripped my interior floor and trunk pans with a wire wheel to bare metal. Intend to use KBS floor kit but noticed they say a wire wheel will actually polish the metal and needs roughed up to get good adhesion. What would be the best way to go about this and what grit if sanding? Thanks and sorry for such a basic question but I want to do it right.
