Hi Kadette!

I agree with deuce454 although I wonder if it is really what you want as far as an automatic transmission. If you like banging through the gears then a T56 is a good choice but keep in mind that with a T56 you will have to cut out the transmission tunnel to fit it in since it is wider. This means you will have to move your accelerator and brake pedal over a bit. If it was me, since your only putting 400 hp in the car I would go with a TKO500/5 speed manual. This trans should fit into the existing trans tunnel and is VERY good! For Auto a 4L60E is a good choice but I would have it beefed up a bit as you will probably want to go for more HP after you have the car for a while and you will already have the trans ready for it! If you are going to drag race then a 2 or 3 speed!
LS1 is a good choice for bang for your buck performance. I, on the other hand, am stupid but I really want to run the LS2 in my '66. It is 472 hp out of the box and can easily be upgraded to almost 600 hp with a cam, heads, and intake!
