Mesh for custom grill

I've got a 1968 Firebird and from what I've been reading I'm not the only one who isn't thrilled about the "bird beak". I've been toying with the idea of using some type of S.S. mesh grill to fill that ungodly "bumper" but I can't figure out where to buy it. I saw a 'Bird in PHR a few years back that looked pretty nice with this...any suggestions?!

Also, it appears that the factory was pretty lax about the fitment of the bumper. Anyone have any tips on a tighter fit against the fenders? Thanks guys!
