I made my choice today. BBC w/carb. 454 at this point but I will have to go through it. Not sure where it will end up for displacement yet. EFI and forced induction to come later as the budget allows.

Sounds like a good choice.
I'm a fan of those BBC's myself.

Tones2ss, This will be my first big block. I'm kind of looking for ideas on how to set it up. Looking for 450+hp and 450+tq. It will be street driven but not a daily driver. I'll have a manual trans behind it. And it will be abused on a regular basis by my right foot.
So which heads? Intake? Cam?
It is a stock mid 70's 454 out of a 3/4 ton truck.
It runs good now but has about 100k on it so I will tear it down and do a full rebuild.

I am planning to use the stock crank and rods as long as they check out ok.
(unless there is a cost efficient way to stroke it?)

Thanks for any ideas/tips,
Eric

No offense, but you're asking the wrong guy. I'm looking for ideas and suggestions myself.
Seems like we both have almost the same type of build in mind, except that I'll be doing a '69 Camaro and maybe fuel injected? Not sure yet if I want to do a carb or fuel injected???
Good luck with everything!
