I would love an event like this in the upper midwest (I know, no mountains to go up). Or a standing mile but I have been unable to find any abandoned runways long enough.

You guys crack me up. Why not just blast up I 94 from Chi-town to Brew-city - that's about 90 miles of flat out fun!! WI state cops routinely hand out tickets
for speeds exceeding 120 mph. The mayor of a Chi-town suburb got one last year for 118!

Sounds like a blast but my first thought is the safety net is going off the side of the mountain. I don't mind rolling the dice on a road course or autocross but I'm going to have to limit myself to calculated risks.

Safety net?? What safety net? This is a run that requires a really good balance of aggressiveness and common sense, not to mention a well prepared vehicle. At the end of the day, this type of competition will yield 10 times the adrenaline generated at the track. The element of uncertainty is a powerful thing...

Think of the stories you can tell all your buddies, theirs will not compare!

You know that we're there - provided the car makes it through the One Lap event unscathed and I make it through the birth of our first in one piece...

We'll be running.

See: http://www.highperformancetrucks.com/news/?p=122

Ran a similar event on the same road in 2004 at the Virginia City Hill Climb in a right hand drive Mitsubishi Evolution VII RS.

Ok guys, here's a video of the run to give you a flavor of what it's like.
We've got commitments from Lingenfelter, Saleen, Stillen, Petty and Fesler as well as a couple Porsche's and a wicked Syclone truck. Shipka's on board with the OPTIMA One Lap Camaro - sign up and show these guys that pro-touring is for real!

Turns out this was a very profound statement Todd. My condolences to Alex's family.
