A shop owned by a good friend of mine. They do a lot of Ford stuff, but he's an old Pontiac guy. They are going to fab the top of the tunnel ram base and mount the big Accufab throttle body on the front. Already have the valve covers setup for the 8 coils. The T&D shaft setup is getting installed on the heads in a week or so. Were pretty sure it will make ~720 HP normally aspirated. The Procharger should add another 450 easy. Street/strip. LSM in Detroit did the CNC lightening. The detail work is amazing. Block is 245# as cast. Its 185# now. And still way strong enough for what Im building.

The easy answer to that rhetorical question is -- because FORD et al are about 10 years behind in the marketing of "aftermarket crate engine" development. I'd love to do a Ford in one of my TWO fords - but it costs twice as much and is twice as hard to find ANY aftermarket parts such as headers etc for the project. Since 500 hp is 500 hp, most people just choose to do what is available on a cost/simplicity basis.

Glad to see you doing cutting edge work here! Super cool!

^ Greg - You are right about Ford being late to the game, but they're here now. Full page ads in the mags, multiple choice for displacement, good HP numbers with only a 5.0 and 32 valves (sexy to me). Street prices are similar to LS series. I even have a buddy who has a 2010 100 mile drop out w trans he's looking to sell.

I'm a GM guy, but to the Ford faithful I'd think this is cause to celebrate!

As far as aftermarket support, I can only imagine it's right around the corner...

You are correct Ron, Ford is finally trying to get competitive. I don't think they will ever reach the popularity of LS engines though. They sound way cooler in my opinion, and the blown 5.4 is awesome, but packaging it is going to discourage a ton of people. These mod motors are HUGE and are not simply a bolt in affair like LS engines are.

Also, the Coyote is a good deal but Ford motors are still expensive. If you want 500-600 horsepower out of a mod motor with an aluminum block you're looking at spending about 15 grand or more.

Matt
