Have you considered/tried copper tubing from Home stores? They come in many different sizes and take plating very well!

Blast from the past! Copper tubing I don't think is an option. We are talking 1.5 - 2" in diameter. I've not worked on this in QUITE some time. And actually all of my stuff is in storage at the moment.
