I forget the years but they changed the location of the coolant lines at some point. I heard the older style(<'97 maybe) is easier to fit into the tunnel on some models without "tweaking" of the tunnel.

Jake@Jake's Performance was very helpful when I had a lot of the same questions. There's more info available over on Chevelles.com forum too since autos are more prevalent there.

ok. they moved the cooler line to the center support 1995?.
the hd (motorhomes and such) units have more clutches in the direct drum. other than that not much changes. the later the unit the better as you will get the updates that gm incoroprated.
