Nice tool box.

In the first picture, the trailing edge of the drivers door looks tight. Maybe its just the lighting or the color differences between panels? Just make sure you account for paint and primer buildup. It takes more space than you might think. But overall the car looks good.

Looking at the pictures I see what your saying. Its crazy how a picture can tell a whole different story then in person. Being that my buddy is a painter he has takin into account for the amount of space needed for paint. I think its just the color difference. But I will take a look later tonight to make sure. But overall you think the gaps look decent? Thanks for the input.

Like you said, they look better than most at the local cruise in near me too.
The most common mistakes I see at the local thing is the gaps being inconsistent. There may be 1/8" to 3/16" DIFFERENCE in gaps on the same car. Like they just bolted a panel on an painted it. I looked at a 67 Mustang coupe last saturday that had 1/2" gaps on the pass side and 1/8" on the drivers side. It looked like the pass door was too short.
But they painted it like that anyway.

Congratulations on the birth of your son!

I'm quite jealous of your project. My dad has never really been into cars and surely didn't pass the love on to me; not until about 1998 did I really get into cars. He helped me out with a few changes to my '90s Caprices but there was no shop (gravel driveway or sloped street only), no array of tools and definitely no money to pull off anything like you're doing here with your dad. Hopefully while mine's still around I will be able to get a project started with him.

Yep. Thats the same with all the cars I see too. My gaps are no where near tight and super clean but they all seem to be consistant. That is all we are aiming for. The car will be drove to and from shows/events and wont see a trailer unless shes really hurt.

Thanks for takin the time to stop by. Im glad that you enjoyed me and my dads jorney so far, its been a long one. Just looking back now there are times I see me and him working on it and it makes me smile. Its not about the car so much as the times hanging with him that mean a lot to me.

Ok so since the birth of my son I relized that the car will be taking somewhat of a back seat for awhile as I get life back in order. I am by no means stoping my project. I have acepted a slower pace is all. With that being said I relized that the car would not be painted any time soon and small surface rust was starting. I talked to Timmy and he said we should just epoxy primer the whole car so it will be protected. So thats what we did this weekend. Overall pretty easy and I know its not really a step forward but its really nice and is a great motivation to see the car in one color, plus is shows any small dents we missed and really shows the gaps pretty well. There is still some small gap work to be done but overall they are pretty close.

After we primed the whole car I looked at him it was around 1:30, the kid was sleeping and I wanted to get as much done as possible. I said you wanna put the fender extensions on and see if we can get the fender wells to fit...he agreed and we tackled that stuff next... onto the pictures.

In other news I bought a set of barely used steering set up(tierods, center link, pitman arm, idle arm), steeing box 12.7 :1 w/ all lines, and steering colum w/ rag joint for 200. I though it was a really good deal and all the stuff has less than 500 miles on it. Ill be getting that stuff today so that will be soon.

Got to the car for a few hours this weekend when the boy was sleeping. I bought a oem standard grill, all aluminum trim, lights, turn signals w/ trim and lower valance for 150 which I thought it was a really good deal. It needs to be cleaned up still and im still looking into how I can remove some dents in the trim but the headlight trim and lower trim are in really nice shape. Better than drive quality I would say. I don't ever do any before pictures so I though it would be nice to have some so I can see how much better it looks once restored.

In other news I did a dry fit on the steering stuff I bought. I'm missing some bolts and am still trying to track down the correct sizes/threads ect..if any one has any of this info and would like to share where to get this stuff/correct size I would be thankful. I need the slotted nut that connects the center link to the pitman arm (I think its a 1/2-20 slotted nut) and I need the bolt and nut that connects the rag joint to the steering box (I think its 3/8 bolt about 1.5" in length) Onto the pictures..
