Exactly.
The niceset car does not always win. The best man does not always win. The best anything does not always win.
Who knows what runs through peoples minds when evaluating anothers project. I think the best criteria I have ever seen, at least for the judging of similar and yet completely different "items", is a dog show.
They pick the very best of each breed (in this case type of car) and pit those against each other. The winner is chosen by which dog (or car) best exemplifies the ideals of its breed (make).
So, if a perfectly restored 1952 VW beetle meets it's criteria more closely than a pro-street vega, the Beetle wins.
In this case, you may, or may not depending on your point of view, have a somewhat better guidline for gudging than "pick whatever car you like best that particular day"
