Now to actually answer your question Mike.

NO it does not have to be in a container. Mine is not - it is however - securely fastened. The car has passed TECH about a zillion times.

You should be good to go.

In the days of LEAD ACID batteries - containers were used to keep the battery from being punctured and throwing acid all over the place. I think that's a rule that harkens back to the 70's.

Its strange to me that its called a "box"...but i def understand the securing part.

NASA doesn't require the battery in the trunk to be in a container but they do require that the tops of the terminals be covered and allowed me to use duct tape. I never did ask them why even though at the time I thought it was odd but never really gave it much thought.
Covering the terminals makes sense to me, probably from either something coming loose or "forgotten" tools causing an arc?

I was thinking that too. I know the NHRA is much harder on the "impact" rule...

Thanx Greg, so the box thing is probably what their refering to like in Dave's link. When its more or less a cage.

How many people out there are running "Optima's"? Spiral Cell tech or an equivalent vs lead based? just curious....

Default Track Virgin

So this is my first post here... I've been over on the p-t site for a few years, and while I love the various builds there, people over here talk about track days and stuff, so I thought I'd quit stalking and join. Now I can see the pictures...

After volunteering at the USCA event at Laguna Seca (last month?), I realized I needed to spend more time inhaling race gas exhaust. At any rate, I've signed up for my first track day at Thunderhill next weekend. On a dollar-per-hour basis, it seems to be a better deal than autocrossing, not that I've done a lot of that either...

I might have the oldest car out there. I'll be the one in the 1963 Falcon with terrible white paint (of varying tones, if you look closely) and quiet (old) mufflers. If you're lucky, you'll hear my brand-new throwout bearing squeal.

I don't have track tires, but I do have a motorcycle helmet.

Welcome to Lat-G

Being there and participating is more important than the caliber of car you're driving. Do the best you can with what ya got.

Track Junky AKA "Little G" will be there too.... so look for him. You'll know the difference because he'll always be working on his car... while the rest of us will be sitting in the shade.
