Had another person I called about a rear end confirm for me that only the carrier itself is different and all the housings are the same.

Yup, all 1971-1981 second gen F-body use the same housing. The only difference is the location of the brake line bracket and the differential inside. Which is either a 2 or 3 series diff and can only accept certain ratio ring gears.
