I'll vote TKO. We've run two of them in ours, and have been really hard on both doing both drag racing and autocross/track. We actually looked at several different options when we decided to go back to a manual last year, including the T-56, Liberty, and others before deciding on just getting American Powertrain's beefed up version.

For a cruiser with a stock LS, I doubt you'll have any of the common TKO issues. If you have a clean car, I can't see cutting it up and spending more for a touch taller overdrive and one extra gear to get there.

Absolutely hated my TKO 600. There is one good place for it, a school bus. Every t56 I've driven is leaps and bounds ahead in shift quality. Spend your money once and be happy with the results.

I like the gear spread of the TKO600RR the best. I think it would do really well with something streetable like 3.55 rear gears.

I was going to save a couple bucks and go TKO and opted for the close ratio T56 Mag.........3+ years later I am so glad I didn't make the mistake. The T56 makes the car. 26.5" tire, 3:73's, 2,100 rpm in 5th = 60 mph, 2,000 in 6th = 70 mph +/- 1 mph GPS mph's.

This is interesting. I just called D&D back and spoke with Don. I was concerned with the need to modify the trans tunnel. He informed me that while its true the T56 is heavier, it has a round top compared to the TKO flat top, and that it will indeed fit a first gen with no tunnel mods.

Personally I do not want to mod my trans tunnel. Does it depend on the engine mounts used?

Has anyone used the Holley system (engine mounts, crossmember, etc.) with a T56 or T56 Magnum and not cut the tunnel?
