I used 8.5 with 5.5 backspacing on my wife's 69 so Mike is pretty much spot on for a 9" wheel. When you go wider you have to push it in further. Not sure why this makes you rethink everything...

So after some more reading the Wilwood aero kit adds too the offset "THIS BRAKE KIT HAS AN HUB OFFSET OF: +.38" while the baer kit I have does not add anything, so if my math is right 5.75 + .375 = 6.125.

Thank-you for finding that, I was rethinking my backspacing, but I am running the Kore3 Z06 rotors and the reduce track width by -.240 which means I can run a 5.5 BS. 5.75 -.240 = 5.51

any steering stops or does it still have full turning radius?

yes, it has steering stops, but it still has pretty decent turning radius.
