On a related note, I think many of you know this, but if you want a real budget LS solution the used 6.0l truck engines are a screaming bargain. We've gotten a couple in the $1K range for swaps. Add in a Speartech harness, used LS6 intake, a used ECU, and a cam package - viola, near 400 RWHP for about $2500.

Also, these have about 9.5 compression stock, which means they'll run on regular fuel normally aspirated, and will work well with moderate levels of boost Only real downside is the iron block, which will add 70-80 lb on your front wheels. Still as light as a first gen small block, though.

I think GM has set it up that way to account for less-than-optimal MAF installations.
yep...true- plus I think there is more power to be made

Default All Forged LSX 376-B15

All the complaints about the original LSX 376 crate motor caused GM to listen. This motor is all forged and built to handle +15lbs of boost. At $8k, it is at least worth a look if long term goals incorporate FI.

Default Bought my powerplant!

Hey guys wanted to let everyone know I bought a crate motore for my project, I ended up with the LS 376/480hp GM engine. I found the best deal at www.gmperformancemotor.com they have free shipping to a few states and a flat $200 to the rest of lower 48 states.
I got the motor for $6364. They have some great prices!

That is a pretty smoking deal. I will have to do the math when everything is said and done, but my LS3 build will come out cheaper, but it is going to take a lot longer and I will likely wind up with a very similar engine.
