Talked to ColoradoAMX today and told me a great story I had to share about his first track day before he even hit the track.

They were under a large canopy at the track for a drivers meeting learning the rules and protocol for entering the track, passing etc. Wayne was talking to a few Porsche drivers and they asked Wayne, “What are you driving”? Wayne simply said, “Some old Javelin”. The Porsche guys just said……. “Oh”.

At that point his son Aaron heads over to the car, fires it up and drives it over to the drivers meeting canopy. EVERYONE empties out of the canopy and the meeting rushing to the car. The Porsche guys say, “THAT’S THE OLD JAVELIN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT”?

They thought it was the real car and were taking photos of the car with people wanting to sit in it for photos and wanting to see the engine. Eventually, Wayne told them it was a replica of the Donohue car. But he said that was almost as fun as driving the car on the track.

So, which one is the real deal???

Dammit, I was going to go out to the track with my Corvette last Friday and didn't. I bought some new wheels with Hoosiers awhile back and have been jonesing to get a track day in ever since. Apparently I should have gone and I could have checked this car out; I love anything remotely "old school T/A"! Neat looking car - I like the little details like the Traco sticker on the valve cover, I guess they built engines for the AMXs?

I was going to head out there this Friday but I have a chance to get into the machine shop here at work and use the CNC to make some pieces for my new race car project which is incredibly rare so I need to get that handled. This is definitely the time of year to be at HPR in CO - the weather is perfect for getting your best lap times in.
